Expansion of China's logistics activity slows in January

Date: 2022-02-08 12:02:12

China's logistics activity posted a slower expansion last month, data from the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing (CFLP) showed Monday.

The logistics performance index, which tracks business volume, new orders, employment, inventory turnovers and equipment utility rates in the sector, came in at 51.1 percent in January, down 1.5 percentage points from the previous month.

A reading above 50 percent indicates expansion while a reading below 50 reflects contraction.

"Affected by the holiday, the logistics performance index showed cyclical fluctuations in January. Despite a decrease from a month earlier, it remained in the expansion zone, demonstrating a stable start of the logistics sector," said He Hui, assistant president of the CFLP.

The sub-index for new orders came in at 50.5 percent, and the sub-index for business activity expectations stood at 57.5 percent. The figures indicate that the sector will maintain steady development in the near future, according to the federation.
